My younger brother, Sammy, asked me to plan his 18th birthday party. I said sure but didn't know where on earth to start! One day I was on Pinterest looking for something completely unrelated to his birthday and randomly saw Lego mini-figures inside of ice cubes. (Like, what???) But then suddenly, my brain exploded with creativity! I went online and created from scratch a Lego mini figure resembling each member of my family (11 total). Then I went onto Amazon and ordered 12 DC heroes and 6 DC villains. I placed all of our family Lego figures inside of an ice cube maker and froze all of us and then created an entire scavenger hunt for Sammy. The scavenger hunt was:
Mr. Freeze (a DC Villain) had kidnapped Sammy's family and they were all in frozen peril--they needed to be rescued! I placed all of our frozen-family Lego mini-figures around our backyard, and in order for those family members to be free of Mr. Freeze's control, he had to solve a riddle or a puzzle. Here's an example:
One of his brothers (inside of an ice cube) was on a table outside guarded by a Lego mini figure of Penguin (another DC Villain). In order for our brother to be free, Sammy's task was to shoot Penguin down with a Nerf gun about 6 feet away. Once he shot him down, he could then approach a "wounded" Lego Penguin and rescue his brother. Also after he defeated Penguin, he approached the table to find his next riddle to solve to find his next family member waiting to be saved.
After he saved all of his family members (with the help of my dad in case he got stuck on a riddle, haha! He had a notebook with all of the answers to the riddles and puzzles in case he got stuck on one.) they both came inside to find the DC heroes surrounding Mr. Freeze because Sammy had helped them capture him!
He had a bunch of tasks that were applicable to his personality and I had so much fun creating this scavenger hunt! One of the best parts was my husband and I (as Lego figures) were being guarded by Poison Ivy (a DC Villain) and her deadly toxins were "in the air", so his instructions were to pull his shirt over his nose and throw rose petals in the air to counteract her poison. Then, he was able to get closer to us and defeat her in close combat by solving a riddle. To this day, we find rose petals (they were silk rose petals) in random parts of the yard because the wind just blew them away! We always laugh whenever one turns up. Definitely one of my most creative parties!!
Love,
Hosanna
